Saudi police say 1,100 photos of dead are from start of hajj

MECCA, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Saudi Arabia's Interior Ministry says the nearly 1,100 photos distributed to foreign diplomats to help identify nationals who've died in the hajj are from the entire pilgrimage and not just a disaster near Mecca.

Pakistan's minister for religious affairs says authorities have tracked down 217 Pakistanis who went missing following last week's stampede that killed hundreds of pilgrims during the hajj in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Interior Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Mansour al-Turki told The Associated Press Tuesday the pictures given to diplomats also include people who died of natural causes. Others are from the 111 people who died when a crane crashed into Mecca's Grand Mosque on Sept. 11.

Saudi authorities say the death toll from the crush of pilgrims in Mina, near the holy city of Mecca, is still 769 people. Officials in India and Pakistan said a day earlier that Saudi officials gave their diplomats some 1,090 pictures of those killed in last Thursday's disaster in Mina.

Why Robert Mugabe just shouted "We are not gays" in his UN speech

Robert Mugabe, the 91-year-old leader of Zimbabwe, deviated slightly from his prepared remarks during his Monday evening address to the United Nations General Assembly, to do something that he does frequently: slur against homosexuality. "We are not gays," he shouted. And it's worse than it sounds.

Mugabe made the comment in the course of a point about "double standards," which is usually dictator code for
"I'm tired of Western countries calling out my human rights abuses," and about "new rights," which is usually code for "I long for the days when discrimination against certain groups was considered acceptable."

Here's the full quote, with the line he added at the podium in bold:

Respecting and upholding human rights is the obligation of all states, and is enshrined in the United Nations charter. Nowhere does the charter abrogate the right to some to sit in judgment over others, in carrying out this universal obligation. In that regard, we reject the politicization of this important issue and the application of double standards to victimize those who dare think and act independently of the self-anointed prefects of our time.

We equally reject attempts to prescribe "new rights" that are contrary to our values, norms, traditions, and beliefs. We are not gays! Cooperation and respect for each other will advance the cause of human rights worldwide. Confrontation, vilification, and double-standards will not.

Mars Has Water: NASA

Traces of liquid water have been found on Mars, NASA said today, raising questions about the possibility of life on the Red Planet.

Dark, 100-meter-long streaks flowing downhill on Mars are believed to have been formed by contemporary flowing water, according to NASA. The findings come from NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter and raise the possibility there could be life -- or even microbes -- living inside the Red Planet.

NASA confirmed there is water on Mars, Water is of course a building block of life. The discovery is also a boon to a future human manned mission to Mars since it would lighten astronauts’ load if they could instead rely on water found on the Red Planet. NASA Reveals What Actually Happens in a Martian Dust Storm NASA Probes.

How Mars Became the Red Planet, Mars Curiosity Rover Finds Mysterious 'Floating Spoon' on the Red Planet.

“I think all of the scientific discoveries we’re making on the surface of Mars…these observations are giving us a much better view that Mars has resources that are useful to future travels," John Grunsfeld, NASA associate administrator, said at the news conference. "I think all of the scientific discoveries we’re making on the surface of Mars, these observations are giving us a much better view that Mars has resources that are useful to future travels."
While Martian water is briny, its possible astronauts could purify and drink it. Water is also composed of oxygen molecules, a crucial component to sustaining life on the Red Planet.

While today’s discovery is huge, it is small compared to the rivers, lakes and vast oceans that are believed to have flowed on Mars billions of years ago. The findings, however, fuel speculation that life may have at one time thrived on Mars or could possibly even exist today.

23-yr-old model born without legs makes N220, 000 daily

Meet Kanya Sesser, the stunning 23-year-old lingerie model. Kanya was born without legs, abandoned at 1 week old, and brought up in a foster home, but even all that has not held her back.

It has not enough to take the edge off her ambition for success because Kanya now makes an average of N220,000 (US$1000) per day as an underwear model. Kanya is breaking down the barriers of the modelling world by showing that just because she is different, that doesn’t mean she isn’t sexy.

She defies traditional beauty standards by working as a model, and hopes to prove that “different” is sexy.

No medical explanation is given for Kanya’s condition, but she is believed to suffer from an extremely rare disease condition described as “Amelia”  that presents as complete absence of an arm or leg in as a result of the limb formation process being either prevented or interrupted very early during development as a foetus in the womb.

Dismantle safe havens for corrupt proceeds, Buhari urges world leaders.

President Muhammadu Buhari has called on the international community to redouble its efforts to strengthen mechanisms for dismantling safe havens for proceeds from corruption.
He also urged his counterparts to do more to return stolen funds and assets to their countries of origin.
This is even as he reassured the international community that rescuing the Chibok girls remained one of the major priorities of his administration.
He made the call while addressing world leaders at the 70th General Assembly of the United Nations.

Extracts:

“Let me reaffirm the Nigerian government’s unwavering commitment to fight corruption and illicit financial flows. By any consideration, corruption and cross border financial crimes are impediments to development, economic growth, and the realisation of the well-being of citizens across the globe. Nigeria is ready and willing to partner international agencies and individual countries on a bilateral basis to confront crimes and corruption. In particular, I call upon the global community to urgently redouble efforts towards strengthening the mechanisms for dismantling safe havens for proceeds from corruption and ensuring the return of stolen funds and assets to their countries of origin.”
“The world has no more excuses or reasons to delay the implementation of the long list of Security Council resolutions on this question. Neither do we have the moral right to deny any people their freedom or condemn them indefinitely to occupation and blockade,” President Buhari said.

Germany probes ex-Volkswagen CEO over pollution scam

German prosecutors have announced that they opened a criminal investigation into Volkswagen’s former chief executive Martin Winterkorn over a worldwide pollution cheating scandal.
Winterkorn resigned in the midst of global outrage after Volkswagen revealed that 11 million of its diesel vehicles are equipped with devices that fool official pollution tests.

The world’s top-selling carmaker admitted that it had rigged diesel emissions to pass US tests during his tenure. The investigation will concentrate on the suspicion of fraud committed through the sale of vehicles with manipulated emissions data and aims to determine who was responsible for it, prosecutors in Braunschweig said in a statement.

"The investigation will focus on the allegation of fraud by selling vehicles with manipulated emission values," the statement said.
"The aim of the investigation is to clarify the chain of responsibility," it added.

In the German system, anyone can file a criminal complaint with prosecutors, who are then obliged to examine it and decide whether there is enough evidence to open a formal investigation.

500 migrants stranded at cemetery

About 500 migrants have been stranded at a Christian Orthodox cemetery in no man's land between Serbia and Croatia. Croatian police on Thursday blocked their entry from Serbia near the Tovarnik border crossing, which has been one of the main entry points for migrants as they seek to continue their hazardous journey toward Western Europe.

The influx of mainly Syrians, Iraqis and Afghans has caused tensions between Balkan rivals Serbia and Croatia, with countries criticizing each other over border closures and traffic blockades. Croatia is blaming Serbia for busing migrants to the Croatian border, instead of channeling them further north toward Hungary.

Selfies Have Killed More People Than Sharks

We’re truly living in a golden age, people.  Now, the narcissistic desire to take a picture of yourself in a completely stupid or inappropriate place or time is a bigger killer than razor-toothed carnivores that can’t be seen below the water.

This isn’t to say that selfie deaths are a scourge on par with a zombie apocalypse – 12 people have died taking selfies in 2015.  It’s just the principle of the thing.  After all, Discovery still has Shark Week every year when we roll out the general fear and awe about sharks and they’ve only killed 8 people this year.  So it’s not far fetched to hope that one day Selfie Week will be on TV and future audiences can marvel at all the ways dummies tried to photograph themselves while they were driving or standing at the edge of cliffs, or scratching their heads with loaded guns.

Four selfie deaths were the result of falling – people get on stairs or whatever, pay no attention to their surrounds because Facebook, move a little too far forward and bam, down you go.  The latest was a Japanese tourist at the Taj Mahal, earlier this month.  He joined a Russian student in July who fell off a bridge and a South African woman who fell from Northcliff Hill.

A 19 year old from Houston died after shooting himself during a selfie he posed for with a gun, because squeezing the camera button and squeezing the trigger are similar actions?  Back in May, two people in Europe died trying to pose with trains and ended up grabbing live electrical wires.  This is of course different than the three people in India who tried to pose with an oncoming train and were hit.  Hard to say if that’s smarter or dumber than the two guys who posed with a hand grenade that they’d removed the pin from.

That’s 11 deaths if you’re counting, but Mashable, who first reported the selfie plague idea, assure us someone else died from falling and we’ll take their word for it because look how stupid the rest of these deaths are?  This doesn’t even include the people who just barely survived, like the guy who took a selfie with a rattlesnake, and another Russian gun enthusiast who couldn’t operate a camera without pulling the trigger on a gun at the same time.

We’re conditioned to express sympathy for people when they experience something tragic like an accident or death, but at the same time we have this visceral “you gotta be kidding me” response when we find out it was the result of something completely ridiculous.  And is anything stupider than this current trend?  These people aren’t even trying to get pictures of an amazing thing or event, they’re taking pictures of themselves.  Because for some reason the internet has convinced a mass quantity of easily influenced people that what they’re doing all the time is of the utmost importance and must be thoroughly documented with photographs constantly.

Do yourself a favor next time you’re driving along a cliff face with a gun in your hand.  Let your buddy take the photos.  Or, at the very least, take a selfie with a shark, because that’s probably very safe.

You Won’t Believe Why People Are Rubbing The Crotch Of This Statue

Apparently Victor Noir, a 19th century French journalist died with a banana in his pocket or he was just happy to see Prince Pierre Bonaparte, the nephew of Napoleon who shot him to death in 1870.

Looks like he somebody was partying a little too hard huffing the spray paint.

That is because people are describing his tomb as “The sexiest tomb in Pere Lachaise” due to the massive budging crotch on his statue. The tomb has become a symbol of fertility with men and women traveling to the famed Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris… to touch Noir’s bronze trouser trout.

It kind of looks like he messed himself.

While the statue itself wasn’t erected until 20 years after Noir’s death, over the past 125 years a legend has arisen around his manhood. They say that people that give Victor a helping hand, a good polish of his knob, or a gentle jiggle of his jollies, will be blessed with good luck, fertility and romance.  So many folks have given him an over the pants handsy that the crotch of the statue has had all of the green oxidation that covers the rest of the statue has been rubbed off, leaving a gleaming tribute to his little Vic.

Rockin out with his schfanz out.

Other famous residents of the cemetery include Oscar Wilde and rocker Jim Morrison who also receive lots of affection. People even leave joints for The Doors musician; so people really know how to get down in this cemetery! RIP stands for Rockin’ Insane Party.

One lady had to take things too far.

Authorities at the cemetery tried to stop all of the touchy-feely stuff by putting a fence around poor Victor. However this resulted in protests by women who demanded to be allowed to rub his junk to get fertility. Too bad he wasn’t alive to enjoy all the attention being paid to his package, but Victor is in good company. That honor goes to Portuguese soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo who last year helped unveil a statue of himself in his hometown rocking a giant boner.

So remember guys, in your last will and testament make sure to commission a statue for your tomb that outlines very specific, well-endowed dimensions for your crotch.

Nazi bomb unearthed in Coventry England.

A Nazi bomb has been uncovered at a construction site in Coventry, forcing evacuations, 75 years after it was dropped by German bombers. Pictured is Coventry after the raid.

The British army is reportedly dealing with an unexploded bomb from World War II. Cordons were in place around the scene in Coventry, after the Nazi munition was unearthed yesterday at a construction site, The Coventry Telegraph reported. It said the size of the bomb was estimated to be about one tonne.

It's believed the Nazi explosive is called 'The Hermann'. It was designed to blow out the walls of buildings and was thought to be suited to bringing down factories.

They were so large you could only carry two in one German Heinkell 111 bomber - rather than more than 1,000 incendiary devices. A controlled explosion would be carried out by the military, West Midlands Police said in a statement.

Some university students and residents had been evacuated. The German blitz on Coventry 75 years ago lasted 11 hours and involved nearly 500 Luftwaffe bombers, The Telegraph reported. The operation was codenamed "Moonlight Sonata".

Two teenagers attempted to rob with fake gun in New Zealand

Two teenagers attempted to rob a Wainuiomata dairy with what is thought to be a fake gun.
A Police central communications spokesman said they were called to Jay Store on Ruthven Rd just before 2pm on Tuesday.

Two males teenagers, both about 16-years-old, had asked for cigarettes. When their request was denied, they pulled out what a store employee believed to be a fake gun. The attempted robbery proved unsuccessful, with the teenage pair fleeing the dairy empty-handed shortly after.

They were last seen getting into a car that drove away from the scene. Police said details about the incident were "sketchy" on Tuesday afternoon, and the alleged attempted robbers were still on the run.

Pregnant mother stabbed to death in Sydney, Australia

A heavily-pregnant mother who was killed in her western Sydney unit overnight was discovered by her teenage son. Kirralee Paepaerei's 15-year-old son came home to their Mount Druitt house just after midnight on Tuesday (local time) and found his 37-year-old mother with fatal head injuries, chest injuries and stab wounds. Kirralee Paepaerei died from fatal head injuries, chest injuries and stab wounds

Paepaerei's de facto partner, 38, walked into Mount Druitt police station a short time later to report a violent home invasion. However, he was placed in custody and remained under police guard in hospital on Tuesday. It is understood he had minor head injuries, partially sustained from trying to jump through a window in their home.

Detective Inspector Dave Goddard said the woman's son was "distraught" following the discovery of his mother.
"You can't describe how he was. He was very, very distraught," he said.

He confirmed that Paepaerei, a mother-of-four, was about seven months pregnant. Detectives set up a crime scene at the Chester Street house and are continuing to investigate the woman's death, which they say is suspicious.

Paepaerei is the 63rd woman to die from violence in Australia this year, according to Destroy The Joint's Counting Dead Women project.

Government officials have met with the leaders of Boko Haram sect for talks on freedom for the abducted Chibok girls

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday said in France.

However, he added that apart from ensuring that it negotiates with genuine leaders of the sect, the government rejected the condition given to it by the sect to proceed with the negotiations.

The condition is for the release from custody of the main suspect behind the production of Improvised Explosives Devices (IEDs).

The President, who was rounding off his state visit to France, spoke during a meeting with the Nigerian community, who met with him under the auspices of Nigerians In the Diaspora Organisation (NIDO)

Buhari said:
“The issue of Chibok girls has occupied our minds and because of the international attention it drew and the sympathy throughout the country and the world, the government is negotiating with some of Boko Haram’s leadership.

“It is a very sensitive development in the sense that first we have to establish who are the genuine leaders of the Boko Haram. That is number one. Number two, what are their terms? The first impression we had was not very encouraging,” he said.

“They wanted us to release one of their leaders who is a strategic person in developing and making IEDs which have been causing a lot of havoc in the country by blowing up people in churches, mosques, marketplaces, motor parks and other places.

“But it is very important that if we are going to talk to anybody, we have to know how much he is worth.

“Let them bring all the girls and then, we will be prepared to negotiate.  I will allow them to come back to Nigeria or to be absorbed into the community. We have to be very careful; the concern we have for the Chibok girls, one only imagine if they got a daughter there between 14 and 18 years and for more than one and a half years, a lot of the parents who have died would rather see the graves of their daughters rather the condition they imagine they were in.

“This has drawn a lot of sympathy throughout the world; that is why this government is getting very hard in negotiating and getting the balance of those who are alive.”

Buhari assured the Nigerians that his administration was doing everything to improve on the state of the economy through provision of infrastructure in critical areas.

A 37-year old South African man has been sentenced to life in prison for raping his two young daughters.

The man who has not been named to protect his daughters, was arrested in 2013 when the girls were six and nine years old respectively.

According to reports, the man who is their biological Dad abused them repeatedly but the kids were too frightened to say anything.

“The mother of the victims realised that her children were being abused by their father and she reported the matter to the police in 2013. The Ekangala Family Violence and Child Protection Unit then took over the investigation that led to the arrest of the accused.

“The hefty sentence handed down to the accused is welcomed and sends out a clear message to criminals that they will be brought to justice‚” police said.

The man was sentenced on Tuesday by the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate Court‚ police said in the statement.
